Shapefile help-CARTALINX -

Hi did every one here know about the this CARTALINX software?
Recently I used this software to built polygons and attribute table for US cities. (exp : NC-Charlotte)When the individual shapefile exported from Cartalinx and merged using ArcView 3, for some reason the hyphen in field name change to underscore (exp: PPN2-D becomes PPN2_D when merging) resulting the dataset in field name (PPN2-D) was disappear. Anyone can help?
